Ruri chooses to fire her work in anagama(wood kilns) without any application of glazes, slips, stains, etc. (Yakishime yohen)
She is interested in the pure interaction of clay, flame, the ash from burning wood, the kiln atmosphere and the artistic spirit. The kiln is acting like an alchemist to give a new life to her clay work. The whole process of wood firing is intriguing and spiritual involving all of the natural elements.
Nature and all kinds of relationships are the source of her inspiration to express her spirituality using clay.
